Global Warming

During the last week of November for six days straight, the weather in and around Sutton-in-Ashfield, where the Idlewells complex is situated, was positively arctic with about two feet of snow lying on the ground.

This hit the local community hard despite the best endeavours of the local authority snow clearance teams, the whole area pretty much came to a standstill. With some members of staff unable to get into work the rosters had to be changed at short notice to ensure sufficient staff coverage in the centre for all departments at all times.

Everyone involved in making this happen played a key role in delivering a first class service to the client, from maintenance operatives arriving into work a 3am to complete gritting duties, security guards turning their hand to gritting duties, the cleaning team ensuring a safe and dry centre, through to our very own Tim Wright making the five mile 90 minute walk each way into work every day to both oversee the team in its efforts as well as getting truly stuck in himself.

The client sent Tim a £25.00 shopping voucher to thank him for his extraordinary efforts during these trying circumstances.

No! Not a Christmas Card, but the view from Peter Hull’s (Regional Manager) front door.

The recent (and ongoing) winter weather is certainly producing some trying times for some of our client site teams. Here are a few photos, showing how bad some of the conditions have been.

Particularly difficult for our retail clients in the run up to Christmas, the pressure to clear this snow was tremendous, and some commendable actions from various and many site staff were seen. In some cases, working through the night in order to clear the car park access routes.

Even though we thought we were prepared, with stocks of grit were laid in new equipment in place, some sites were simply overwhelmed!

At Crystal Peaks work went on through the night with JCBs and snowploughs.

Well done to all involved at all sites.

The action plans are being amended now and revised snow plans issued to hopefully cope better if we ever get this much snow again…
