Gum Ball 3000

Covent Garden joined together with Gumball 3000 to host the launch of the 2011 international event from the piazza on Thursday 26th May. The Gumball rally is an increasingly popular car event that for the last 8 years has famously started on Pall Mall and for the first time, this year, the event started in Covent Garden.

Over 100 amazing vehicles set off from London on a 3000 mile journey across 10 countries all the way to Istanbul. Closing roads and city centres. From London the route incorporated Paris, Barcelona, Monte Carlo (attending the Monaco F1 race), Milan, Venice, Zagreb, Belgrade and Sofia before crossing the finish line in Istanbul on Wednesday June 1st.

The incredible line up included Pagani Zondas, Bugatti Veyrons, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Aston Martins, Jaguars, Porsches, Morgans and several Lotus', and this year also saw over 20 eco and concept electric cars take part as Gumball enters a new decade of green motoring!

To ensure a safe and efficient event, additional services were arranged. These include medical services, fire protection, stewards and Gumball staff, with additional security and cleaning services from IFM.

Gumball 3000 Events limited were very keen for Covent Garden businesses to get involved and to produce an incredible event, with the main aim of internationally highlighting and promoting the retail outlets, eateries and services of Covent Garden.

In order to highlight and promote all businesses, the following was offered to Covent Garden tenants:
• Award for the best window display. For the best “Gumball” dressed window display. The prize of two tickets for the “money cannot buy” Gumball launch party which took place on Wednesday 25th May at an exclusive London location.
• Celebrity visits to your shop – photo opportunity. Covent Garden businesses were scheduled to ensure all businesses make the most of the visit through photography and press.
• Window transfer. All businesses were welcome to display “I love Gumball at Covent Garden” window transfers to offer discounts or special menus to Gumball drivers and the public. Businesses demonstrating this participation with the event were awarded Gumball gifts through the day.
• Outstanding Gumball involvement. Businesses who displayed outstanding support and involvement of the event were awarded with Gumball gifts on the day of Thursday 26th May.
• Advertising on the event day. With the power of two video screens and a PA system from 0900-1600 within Covent Garden, all tenants were invited to promote their businesses.
